Highway Noise Barrier are heavy-duty, weather-resistant acoustical blankets for outdoor applications that effectively blocks noise from propagating into the surrounding environment.
Highway noise barrier walls are used when busy interstates and highways are built near highly populated residential areas. When outdoor soundproofing is needed from mechanically generated noise, acoustical enclosures and outdoor sound barriers are most often used.
Outdoor sound curtains, or sound curtain noise barrier walls, are a highly economical and effective method of reducing noise generated from noisy equipment or processes that are exposed to the elements. This unique composite material combines a sound absorber with a noise barrier into a flexible and versatile panel.
Soundproof panels can be installed on fences, frames, or other support structure, including construction fencing, roof top barriers, by-pass pumps, gas compressors and many others.
Highway traffic noise barriers benefits:
- Reduce the loudness of traffic noise
- Effective Acoustical Noise Barrier
- Substantially reduce noise levels for surroundings

What are Noise Barriers?
A noise barrier (also called a sound barrier, or acoustical barrier) is an exterior structure designed to protect sensitive use areas from noise pollution. Sound barriers are materials used to block or soundproof an area or a noisy equipment.
Noise Barrier material is extremely strong and engineered to withstand outdoor construction sites, highway environments, and most other outdoor applications.
Highway Noise barriers are obstructions built between the highway and surrounding areas. Noise barriers typically reduce noise levels by 5 to 10 decibels (dB), cutting the loudness of traffic noise by as much as half. Noise Barrier can significantly reduce the sound level.
How Does a Noise Barrier Work?
Noise barriers reduce the sound by blocking sound from traveling directly from the source and reflecting it back. Noise barrier achieve a significant dB noise level reduction.
Types of Noise Barrier
Absorptive Noise Barrier – Absorbs and Insulate noise.
Reflective Noise Barrier – Reflects the sound
Noise Control Product Types
Highway Noise Absorbers Reduce noise reflection to dissipate noise energy.
Physical Properties: Porous, fibrous and sometimes covered with protective membranes. Noise enters the absorber and is partly dissipated (absorbed) within the material. Some is transmitted. Some is reflected. Absorber performance is expressed as a decimal value. A perfect absorber is rated at 1.00. The higher the decimal value the more effective the absorber will be.
Effectiveness is expressed as NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient).
NRC: Percentage of acoustical energy absorbed calculated as an average of laboratory test data at several frequencies.
Blocks transmission of noise.
Physical Properties: Non-porous, high density and usually non-fibrous. Barriers are generally flexible or damped. The noise is blocked, reflected and re-routed in another direction. Barrier materials are tested and rated for their Sound Transmission Loss capability. The number is stated in dB and the higher number signifies the better barrier.
Effectiveness is expressed as STC (Sound Transmission Class).
STC: Single number rating derived from decibel loss data at several frequencies.
Long Term/Permanent Outdoor Sound Curtains
Fiberglass absorbers and Fiberglass/barrier composites are UV resistant acoustical attenuating blankets and blanket/barrier composites that are used to reduce reverberant (reflected) airborne noise outdoors as well as block transmitted airborne noise.
Acoustical Blankets products are an excellent cost effective solution to controlling outdoor noise since they are flame resistant, tear and rot resistant, and possess high tensile strength and they have a wide temperature range, can be cleaned, and are unaffected by moisture, humidity, dust, dirt, oils and most chemicals.
Flexible quilted absorbers are easy to install, will not degrade, and have extremely long service lives.

Long Term/Permanent Outdoor Sound Curtains
Outdoor sound curtains are used to enclose compressors and hydraulic pumps. Sound Blankets serve as partitions for blower noise and outdoor fence construction.
Sound panels also control noise from industrial projects like HVAC units. Factories, industrial sites, mining and manufacturing facilities commonly use them to comply with OSHA’s industrial safety noise levels.
Acoustic panels are flexible and can be installed on frames, fences, and other types of support.
Acoustic Blanket have been seen on the fences of construction sites, by pass pumps, rooftop barriers, and gas compressors. The panels are modular and versatile withstand prolonged UV exposure, high heat and are reusable.
